Hey there!
It’s been a while since I’ve been in this space. Welcome to my blog! Or welcome back if you’ve been here before.
At the end of 2024 I started to think a lot about high school Mina.
I guess you could say my interest in fashion sparked when I was in high school. During that time I was always trying and playing with different styles and had what I consider a “fearless” approach to styling.
I would try different color combinations and one of my favorite memories is wearing clothes the “wrong” way. I was known to wear shirts backwards and looked for ways to make a simple shirt more interesting to look at.
Remember those school t-shirts? I would DIY them by cutting the neckline to make them an off the shoulder shirt (kind of cool to see that style back.) On some occasions, I would add lace to some of my t-shirts. Was I giving coquette?
The last fun thing I remember making, a few years after high school, was a floral top for a concert. I took a sports bra style top and hot glued some big flowers to make my concert outfit fun. It was a hit. I paired it with a textured skater skirt (remember that era!?) and some booties.

I think back to that time of my life and wonder, why did I stop? What happened?
And truly, I don’t have the answer to that question. But I knew this would be the year I explore my style with a more “fearless” approach and channel the energy of high school me.
Here are a few things I’ll be trying with my stye:
1- Curating my accessory collection:
Last year I realized my accessory collection was lacking, leading me on the quest to prioritize accessories whenever I am out shopping. Accessories can really add that extra pop to a very simple outfit, and trust me a lot of my looks lately have fallen on the simple, basic side (nothing wrong with that.)
One of my big inspirations for crafting my accessory collection is @benulus, she NEVER misses. Every time I see her craft an outfit in her videos she seems to always pull the perfect accessories that fit with her style and she is truly goals!
2- Exploring a new approach to maximalism:
Speaking of accessories, maximalism is another style I want to dive in to.
Apparently maximalism is in this year which is great, but also bad (hear me out.)
@Benelus is a maximalism queen, she’s been curating her style for over five years. So, it’s important to understand that creating a maximalist wardrobe can take longer than a year.
I do think maximalism is much more than owning a lot of clothes or a large quantity of accessories. I saw a video by Tuba Avalon where she describes maximalism as an opportunity to play with different silhouettes, colors and textures. If I understood correctly, her take on maximalism is an opportunity to include statement pieces in your everyday styling, and wearing things you don’t normally wear.
One example of maximalism she mentioned was styling oversized pieces, which I love, because I’ve been an oversize lover since my high school days.
3- Masculine and feminine harmony:
I think my love for oversize pieces works with the style that combines masculine and feminine silhouettes. I recently discovered Candace Reels on Instagram and l love, love, her take on masculine and feminine styling. She combines her accessories with feminine pieces and completes the look with a slight masculine touch. She is also style goals.
If you’re also on the quest to redevelop your personal style don’t forget that your personal style is what works for you and your lifestyle. Don’t get caught up in the noise, if all black looks are what make you feel good, then wearing all black is your personal style and that’s completely fine. Have fun and discover what truly resonates with you.
Thanks so much for reading. I’ll catch you on the next one!
