Last Wednesday I went to Austin with the newspaper team at my community college in Dallas. We attended the Associated Collegiate Press / College Media Association (ACP/ CMA) convention. My school placed second for multimedia component / video in a 12 hour live competition. We were only allowed to capture a story on mobile devices. We also competed against other community colleges in Texas.
Our literary magazine, The Windmill placed sixth place in the nation and some parts of Canada, we were also the only Texas school who placed in this category and we were against two and four year schools. It feels awesome to have a story published in an award winning literary magazine.
We were also in Austin during the crazy Halloween weekend. I decided to stay in on Halloween because I had a horrible headache. I decided to go to bed early since we had to be up bright and early for the award ceremony on Sunday. I did get to spend most of Saturday exploring the Mexic-Arte museum and attended the Viva La Vida 2015 festival which celebrated life and Dia De Los Muertos.
There were Dia De Los Muertos altars around the museum and a tequila tasting later in the evening. I unfortunately missed the parade in the morning.I purchased the coolest Frida Kahlo at the Mexic-Arte museum so that was definitely a highlight from Saturday. I didn’t get to take many outfit pictures but here is a small recap from my trip. All shot on iphone5c.
